Cherry Street Work Days to Continue Regularly

Bonjour! If you haven’t had a chance to participate in a work day at Cherry Street, never fear…the scheduled work days are numerous and plentiful.

We have scheduled work days most every Saturday until the work is finished. We would like our wonderful volunteers to RSVP so we can be sure to have enough tools and equipment to go around each day.

Also, if Saturdays don’t work for you, but you’d still like to volunteer, please call Tim Ahlenius at 816-516-2165, or email Tim at: tdahlenius@everestkc.net.

Tim will work with you to get another day and time that WILL work for your schedule.

Post Work Weekend Update

For the past few weeks we’ve had a paint crew at Cherry Street spraying the ceilings in all the classrooms and the cafeteria with a fresh coat of paint.  The results are terrific!

Saturday, Jan 21st we had another great work day at the Cherry Street Campus.  About 15-20 individuals showed up ready and willing to get some tasks done.  Our main area of focus was the 2nd floor classrooms.

We spent a great deal of time on the woodwork and cabinetry, getting those areas ready for painting.  We also had a couple folks pull the tile out of the infirmary and admin office so those areas can be prepped for new flooring.

Next on the list is to get the 1st floor classrooms prepped for painting.  It is our hope to have another work day on Sat. Feb 4th to accomplish that goal.  Then we are planning to get the woodwork painted and some color on the walls.

We have a team at Cherry Street now, preparing the walls for paint (repairing plaster cracks, skim coating drywall walls, etc).  We also hope to have the other areas of flooring removed that are scheduled to be replaced.

We’ve also discussed opening up the school at other hours for volunteers to come in to work (daytimes, evenings, Sundays, etc).  If there are particular times during your week that you feel you might be able to put a little time in, please let us know.  We will do all that we can to facilitate that for you.

Work Day Scheduled for Saturday, January 21

Join us this Saturday, January 21st as we prep the Cherry Street campus for painting! We’ll have a shift in the morning from 8-12, and one in the afternoon from 12-4.  Volunteers are welcome to drop in anytime if a full shift doesn’t work for your schedule.

Our goals will be:

-Pulling up the remainder of carpet in classrooms

-Removing tile in affected classrooms and offices

-Sanding and prepping woodwork in all classrooms

-Prepping for painting of walls in all classrooms

We’ll be renting a floor scraper for the tile removal, and may also rent some electric sanders, but if you have one you can bring, it would be appreciated.
