School Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
In order to improve and secure the safety of students and staff in the building and create a more organized and friendly environment, the following plan for the beginning of the school day’s arrival of students and the end of the day dismissal is outlined below.
BUILDING ENTRANCE DOOR WILL REMAIN LOCKED AT ALL TIMES (as well as all other doors to the building)
Before School Routine
7:30 a.m. - Students may enter the building and report to gym for breakfast, students will be buzzed into building.
8:00 - 8:20 a.m. - Student greeters will be outside building (door will be open)
8:20 - 8:30 a.m. - Door to main entrance will be open and supervised.
8:30 a.m. - Door will be closed and locked.
8:20 a.m. - 3:25 p.m.
During the school day, the door will remain locked and all who enter will be buzzed into the building. Teachers will not prop the door open in any way and when sending students inside from recess to the bathroom, they will be buzzed in. Students in grades 3 and below must be in pairs when entering the building without a teacher (this is a safety precaution and a plan is being worked out to give staff an entry key).
End of the School Day
3:00 p.m. - NO EARLY PICK UP (If a parent arrives early to pick up a student, please ask that they wait until the official dismissal time (3:25 p.m.) as to not interrupt the end of the day class time (exceptions will be considered).
3:15 p.m. Doors open
3:25 p.m. - Bell rings and dismissal of students begins (Supervision will be arranged for all hallways during the dismissal time)
- Middle School Students who are being picked up by parents will go to the auditorium with their teacher as usual, bus riders will proceed to their bus, and walkers will leave building.
Grades 1-5 students who are being picked up by parents will be picked up in the classrooms after the bus riders exit (interns in grade 1 will accompany their students to the buses) and walkers will leave the building.- Parents should not enter classrooms before the bell rings. Teachers need to communicate with parents and ask them to wait until bus students and walkers are dismissed.
DURING PARENT PICK UP - ALL PARENTS WILL PICK UP THEIR CHILD(REN) AND LEAVE THE BUILDING
YMCA students and students in the academic support program will stay in the classrooms during this time.
3:45 p.m. - Teachers will leave the classroom with the following students:
- YMCA students (drop off in the gym)
- Late pick up students (drop off at office)
- Students in Academic Support will go to assigned classroom (snacks will be given in each classroom by the academic support teacher). Teachers will work in teams to make sure all students are supervised by sharing supervision of academic support students in classrooms or bringing down the late pick ups and YMCA students.
3:50 p.m. DOORS CLOSED AND LOCKED
There will be someone at the front desk to buzz visitors into the building, i.e. YMCA parents for pick up, after school activities, Fencing, Alliance Francaise, etc.
